Caroll Spinney by Durkinworks
Caroll Spinney
This is the beginning of a pet project of mine that has been on my artistic bucket list for as long as I can remember. I've always wanted to showcase the Sesame Street/Muppet performers by drawing a caricature of each of them with a few of the characters they are best known for. I'm going to focus first on the original performers, then move on to the current group. This is strictly a labor of love. I want to highlight these talented people who have inspired me so much over the years, and who sometimes don't get the credit and recognition they deserve. The first one is of 81 year old Caroll Spinney, who has been performing Oscar the Grouch and Big Bird on Sesame Street since the show debuted in 1969.
Smaug the Terrible by Durkinworks
Smaug the Terrible
Here's a design I did of Smaug the Dragon protecting his gold. From The Hobbit (the book, not necessarily the movie).
AT-IG by Durkinworks
What would happen if the Iron Giant visited Hoth? Well, probably something like this.
The Cat in the Hutt by Durkinworks
The Cat in the Hutt
MMMmmmm...Cat in the Hat. Tastes great with Green Eggs and Ham. Just what a growing Hutt needs.

No journal entries yet.

What would you consider the best of "modern" Sesame Street? (season 21 to current season)

I was born in 1971, and Sesame Street (and Jim Henson) was the reason I became an artist. When Jim died in 1990, I stopped watching anything Sesame or Muppet related, his death was too painful for me, and it took a long time for me to accept other performers in his roles (to this day, I've never seen Muppet Christmas Carol). After a few years, I was able to move on and enjoy the new performers who continued his work. But back to your question. To be honest, until lately I haven't watched much post-Jim Sesame Street. I have a four-year-old who loves Sesame Street (thank goodness) and he's been watching the show lately. I like that the focus has been taken off of Elmo. He's a lovely little monster, but Sesame Street has never spent so much time on ONE character like they were doing for a while with him. Now it seems they're returning to their core characters, and it's closer to the show I grew up with.

Gee... sorry about that. Didn't mean to upset you.

I asked 'cause it's for some Henson tribute I'm doing for next year (in honor of his death), highlighting both his career when he was alive & what's happened after his death. I'm just asking some Henson fans for their opinions/suggestions.

But since you brought up the "original" Sesame, what would you consider the best of the original show? (season 1 to 20) So far, I've chosen the King of 8, Wheels on my Heels and Kermit's & Joey's Alphabet.

Oh, you didn't upset me at all.

I'd have to think about it, but off the top of my head, I like Kermit and Cookie Monster and the Mystery Box, The Alligator King, African Alphabet Song. I'll think of some more.

It's "kinda" been done before as an official parody poster of Kermit (Pirates of the Amphibian). Not a bad idea though, I'll give it a shot!

oh, i didn't realise...
maybe instead of the pirates, you can make the muppet marvel avengers. its just a little suggestion.

The more I think about it, the more I like the Pirates (plus, I'm more familiar with Pirates of the Caribbean). You'll see it here first!
